Floor cutting with two FS450

Removing the floor with EDT EURODIMA floor cutters

A big Austrian automotive supplier expanded and for these reconstructions, a concrete floor had to be removed. The floor had 24x22m, i.e. a 528 m² area with 25 cm height. The floor has to be cut into 2x2 m sized and 2.5 t heavy blocks so that they can be removed with an indoor crane. This amounts to a cutting length of 574 m and a cutting surface of 143.5 m². These tasks have to be accomplished within two days. The EDT EURODIMA customer Seidl/Austria was assigned with that job.

The concrete floor was highly quartzous, thus hard to cut. The reinforcement was within standard degrees. In order to accomplish the tasks within the time frame, the project manager of Seidl, after consulting the EDT EURODIMA representative, chose to employ two floor cutters FS450, together with the new EDT EURODIMA cured concrete saw blades of type AB21P.

The primary cut (15 cm) was done with a saw blade ø 600 mm, width 4.7 mm, and segment type AB21P with a cutting efficiency of approx. 580 cm²/min and a tool life of 68 m². The final cut was done with a saw blade ø 800 mm, width 4.4 mm and also type AB21P. That blade reached 720 cm²/min cutting efficiency and after cutting 57.4 m², the segment was still 3 mm high.

The EDT EURODIMA floor cutters FS450 proved to be the ideal machines for this job, due to the high-torque Deutz motors with 45 kW / 60 hp power. The hydraulic v-belt tensioner transmits the whole motor torque fully to the cutting shaft. As the v-belts always are perfectly tensioned, controlling them is not necessary. Thus, there is no belt slipping or jarring.

The FS450 does not only impress by its high performance but also through its ergonomically arranged operator panel. From the work station, all functions can be controlled: Steering, sight, cooling water, fast gear for moving the machine, saw blade on-off, or lowering / lifting. Work is much less exhausting; the operator keeps concentrated and the work is of more constant quality.

With the fully hydraulic steering, moving the machine is easy and directional stability outstanding. Small corrections and an exactly straight cut are possible without any user’s contortions. The short wheel base and the direct steering make the FS450 well manoeuvrable. The water consumption is very low due to the central water supply. Thus, the floor was not as dirty as with comparable floor saws and removal was much easier. The low filler opening is convenient: the operator has little effort to lift the canister.

The automatic cutting depth stop prevents from damaging the diamond blade by relief-grinding the segments. The depth can be set for cutting the concrete floor but stopping when getting to the gravel level.

The big drive wheels ensure a very good traction and thus an optimal cutting pressure. Furthermore, this leads to an impressive cross-country mobility. Small bumps and barricades are simply run over.

Together with the fully hydraulic steering, the safety functions such as the automatic oil pressure shutoff prevent damages, i.e. at the motor. A needed change of the hydraulic oil filter is indicated, too. This avoids expensive downtimes and reparations.

The high daily outputs and the easy work increase the operating efficiency of the floor cutter.
