Tornado at the JadeWeserPort!
The wall saw tornado sb320 performs high at the port
The large-scale project JadeWeserPort is a highly important infrastructure project in Lower Saxony, Germany. From the start of planning in 2001 until beginning of operation in 2011, Germanys only deep water harbour for containers that is independent from tide, is built. Awarding authorities and users will make use of the following advantages:
• short approach: 23 sea miles
• accessible for ships with a draught up to 16.5 m
• Jade fairway with an already exisiting depth of 18 m below sea level
• container ships with 430 m length, 58 m width, 16.5 m draught were successfully simulated
• most Eastern deep water port of the European North Range
• direct motorway access at the terminal (BAB 29)
• large logistic, industrial and commercial area (160 ha) close to the container terminal
• excellent rail network linked to the terminal
At this major project, the EDT EURODIMA products take part in the constructions success! As the removal of the cantilever platform that reaches 300 m into the Jade gulf (“Niedersachsenbrücke”) had to be done, with cutting depths up to 65 cm, our partner was mandated with that task. As it was a complicated task, our partner employed the high frequency system tornado sb320 from EDT EURODIMA for the extensive cutting. The removal was done by a 4 t telehoist load lugger from WiBA.
Furthermore, our partner was assigned with removing a 250 t, heavily reinforced concrete bollard, a stand-alone pollard in the gulf. The braxx system tornado sb320 was also used for this challenging task because of its reliability and high performance. Together with a hydraulic press, it was split it up into three parts. The cap was lifted off with a 130 t sea crane.
The works were affected by strong winds: anemometers showed up to wind strength 7 to 8 over and over again! Thus, the works often had to be interrupted.
WiBa, the operating concrete drilling and sawing company, always had to be ahead of the piling progress, which, due to the circumstances, was challenging. However, their work was successful, on the strength of the tornado sb320 and the well-cutting diamond tool performance. Altogehter, approx. 300 m quay wall was cut, with 195 m² cutting surface. Therefore, blades with diameters up to 1500 mm and fast-cutting WS30 wall saw segments were used. The reinforcements were 16,000 cm².
